Our hardware

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X

Clock speed is everything for game server performance. We run the fastest game server hardware available.

5.7 GHzBoost Clock

The highest single-thread clock speed on the market. Directly translates to less lag.

16Cores

32 threads handling your server, mods, plugins, and player connections simultaneously.

DDR5Memory

Next-gen memory with higher bandwidth. Faster chunk loading, smoother gameplay.

NVMeSSD Storage

Your world loads instantly. No spinning disks, no waiting, no bottlenecks.

A game server running at 5.7GHz will always outperform one running at 3.5GHz. That's why every Server Heron game server runs on the Ryzen 9 9950X.

Why does clock speed matter for game servers?

A game server does most of its work on one core, one step at a time. Every tick it has to move the world, handle combat, and update players before the next one starts, and that main loop can't be spread across cores. So how smoothly it runs comes down to how fast a single core gets through each tick. The other cores still help, running side jobs like world generation, backups, and mods at the same time.

In simple terms

A CPU core works like a cashier. Five slow cashiers can get through more customers at once than one fast cashier can. But a game server mostly deals with one long order at a time, and one cashier has to handle it start to finish. Extra tills can't take part of that order, so what matters is how fast that one cashier works. A CPU only has so many cores, so we run the fastest ones we could get.

What every plan includes

Every plan includes everything on this list. Bigger plans add more memory, CPU, and disk.

  • Workshop collections

Paste one Steam Workshop collection ID and the server loads every addon in it. You can also upload your own custom addons through the file manager or SFTP

  • Free MySQL databases

Two free databases included with every server, with support for modules such as mysqloo, so a DarkRP economy keeps player data between restarts

  • High clock hardware

Garry's Mod runs its game logic on one core, so every server sits on an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X with NVMe storage

  • DDoS protection

Network level filtering runs on every server from the first minute, at no extra cost

  • Low latency EU location

Servers are hosted in Europe on a fast connection, close to your players.

About Garry's Mod hosting

Garry's Mod is the classic sandbox built on the Source engine, where the game is whatever the community makes of it. Spawn props and build contraptions, or load a gamemode and play DarkRP, Trouble in Terrorist Town, Prop Hunt, Murder, or any of the thousands on the Steam Workshop.

Running your own server means you pick the gamemode, the map, the rules, and the addons. Paste in a Workshop collection ID and the server loads every addon in it, and your players download the same set from Steam when they join.

You have full access to the server files, so you can upload your own Lua addons, edit any config, raise the prop and entity limits, and install binary modules such as mysqloo for a DarkRP economy that keeps player data between restarts.

Garry's Mod runs its game logic on a single core, so processor speed decides how smoothly a busy server holds up once the props and entities pile in. Experience unrivaled performance on an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X with NVMe storage

Common questions

Quick answers to common questions.

How do I install addons?

Paste your custom Steam Workshop collection ID into your server settings and your server automatically downloads every addon in that collection on startup, you can also upload custom addons directly through the file manager or SFTP

Do I get a MySQL database?

Yes! Every Garry's Mod server comes standard with two MySQL databases, DarkRP, Pointshop and similar addons commonly use one to save player data, so progress and inventories survive a server restart. You can easily create them in your control panel

How many players can I have?

Up to 128 player slots, which is the hard limit of Garry's Mod, we do not cap it below that

Can I upload binary modules like mysqloo?

Yes, you get full access to every file on your server through the built in file manager or SFTP, anything your server needs can be installed

Will my server show up in the public server browser?

Yes, add a free Steam server token in your settings and your server appears in the in-game browser for anyone to find and join

Can I raise the tickrate?

Yes, a higher tickrate means smoother movement and better hit registration. It uses more CPU, which is exactly what the hardware is meant for
